Monday

I really wanted to skip school this morning but we missed too much last week. It's just the getting started part that's hard though. We finished Bible, History, and Science before lunch. That even included building a volcano of Olympus Mons, the biggest (known) volcano in the entire solar system. I'm not sure why we built a model. We did a whole unit on volcanos a couple years ago and the boys still know lots of stuff. The book even said astronomers have never seen Olympus Mons erupt and don't know what would come out of it if it did. But the activity was suggested in the book and the boys saw it. It was definitely easier than building an ecosystem, which was the other suggested activity! We're just waiting for the salt dough to dry so we can do some eruptions tomorrow.
Salt Dough Recipe
In a large bowl, mix together:
1 1/2 cup of white flour
1/4 cup of salt
1 tsp of cooking oil
1/2 cup of water
(add tablespoons of water until it is a good dough consistency)
After lunch, we started our new spelling book, Sequential Spelling 2. No surprises there.. it's exactly the same as SS1. Then we did some Math and Reading before rushing out the door to Band practice.
I stayed too late at band chatting, so after running a couple errands, we didn't have time to go home for dinner. There was chicken in the crockpot but no time to fix something to go with it. I hit the Taco Bell drive-thru. We ate in the car as we rushed home. Adam and Ryan both changed and we were out the door again.
Adam's soccer team had their first play-off game tonight. They won 3-2 so they'll play again next week. Grandma came to the game so she took Adam and Jeff out for ice cream after the game.
I had Ryan at football practice. The little ones went with me and played in the dirt. They wound up dirtier than the football player! I took them home, put them in the tub, and finally, got everyone in bed. Whew! What a day!
