Things I Wish I Didn't Know About U-Haul

That huge green $19.95 you see emblazoned on the side of every U-Haul truck.... not true! Yeah, that's the base price. But you can't drive a single mile for $19.95 b/c they charge you extra for extra single mile that you drive.

You have to pay for your own gas and then some. "Just fill it back up to where it was when you left the lot." Oh yeah.. and just how am I supposed to know how much gas will get it up to 5/6 of a tank?

That "Grandma's Attic" over the cab - much higher than you think it is.

That "Grandma's Attic" over the cab can snap a tree branch even when you're just creeping through a parking lot.... or so I've heard.

Tree branches make extremely loud and startling popping sounds when snapped off with a U-Haul truck... or so I've heard.

There are no actual 10ft trucks. Sure, they advertise them. But there aren't any actually available to rent. But they'll be glad to give you a massively long, gas-guzzling 14ft truck for the same price (which is NOT $19.95).

U-Haul dealers typically run greasy garages and they like to chat... a lot... even when you're in a hurry to go move something.

Anyone can rent a U-Haul. You just need to be 18 years old and have a valid driver's license. Seriously, you should steer clear when you see one of those babies barrelling down the interstate. That could be me sitting up in the cab. I paid $14 for the U-Haul Insurance and I'm not afraid to take you out! It won't cost me a thing.
