The Great Moth Mystery

They're gone (insert twilight zone music). Not just the moths, but the cocoons are gone too. I can't imagine anyone came into my yard under the cover of darkness and stole them. While they were a treasure to us, there's just not much of a black market for moth cocoons.... unless we're talking about a hungry robin. LOL My guess is they hatched, ate their own cocoons, and flew away. That is based on nothing scientific and I wonder how they all hatched on the same night. Is "hatched" even the right word??

Actually, we do have a couple left. I examined one closely and it looks like there is a hard shell under the soft white cocoon. You can even see part of the caterpillar outside of the shell. I hope these few that are left will hatch! I shut the lid on the box so they can't fly away if it happens tonight. I'll be really bummed if we don't get to see an actual moth.

The caterpillars are about the most exciting thing happening around here lately. We're trying to get caught up on our history reading and have dropped Science for the week. We've dropped Math down to just Fridays since the boys are on the review pages at the end of the book. Other subjects are just plodding (do I get bonus points for using one of this week's spelling words?) along. We'll probably finish before August.

I've decided to use Positive Action for Bible next year. It's very workbooky but I think it will help us delve more deeply into what we're reading. We read our Bible every day but sometimes I feel like the boys are not really "getting" it.

I'm still thinking about Language. At least three different people have suggested Easy Grammar but none of them have actually used it. I just don't see what makes it so great. To me, it looks like every other Language workbook. I'd love to hear from someone who's used it or can recommend something else wonderful.

You know you are a homeschool mom when you check your friend's blog to see how the caterpillars are faring. LOL

I hope you get to snap pics of the moths. Maybe you should get some night vision goggles and covertly hide then jump out to photograph them at Just. The. Right. Time.

Hey,
Did you get Apologia Botany? I got it in the mail today. Exciting.
Yes, the neighbors that I spoke of in the whyicantmove blog is Tyler and Carrie. It's turned into a massive junk yard and Tyler threatened to gut our cats. We don't like them.
