I never saw it coming. And now I've been run down by a bus load of sixth grade math. Actually, I did see it coming but I had no idea it was traveling so fast! I thought I had until 8th grade Algebra before my kids became smarter than me.
It's 6th grade percentages and mils that have me so befuddled. Which led to confusing Adam so much yesterday that he finally explained it to me! I've been cruising along without the teacher's manuals for the past couple of years but now it's clearly time to invest in that scripted curriculum! I don't want to flunk out of the sixth grade!

lol, so long as he can explain it back to you!! :) love the new pic of the boys :)
I know.
Math is taking so much of our time lately. I wish my boys were closer together in what they were learning. I seem to be spending forever teaching one a concept and then teaching the other his concept of the day.
One is learning his 6 multiplication tables and the other is trying to get the pythagorean theory.
Geeze.
Oh, I forgot. Have you looked at "teaching textbooks"? I think we may give them a try next year. Seems really cool.
When you said "scripted curriculum" I thought, "oh no! Don't try Saxon!" We started with Saxon...actually my youngest is still using it until the end of the year...but found it to be entirely too time consuming and requires too many manipulatives. I often found myself unable to teach math because I forgot to buy the 9 apples or I couldn't find this or that in my house. That was AFTER investing a ton of money into the manipulatives listed in the book. It took me about an hour a day to do each day's lesson not counting prep time. Good luck finding something that works for you!
I am so scared of the day this happens to me. Oh. My. Gosh.
I already told DH that he's going to have to handle math when it gets too crazy for me. Which will be like fifth grade. It all went downhill for me as a kid when I hit fifth grade math. YOIKS.
I think it's awesome he could explain it to you. Can DH pitch in? Or ... ?
