Evan is not the most enthusiastic learner. He's convinced himself that schoolwork is hard and he shouldn't be subjected to it. It's not really difficult academically but he sure makes it difficult to get through a lesson!! He started addition with three addends this week. He acts like it's impossible and there's no way he'll ever be able to add three numbers together. He whines. He cries. It's all very sad.
Which brings us to dinner tonight. I fixed fish sticks for Evan b/c he doesn't like regular fish and I didn't want to fight with him (see above). He loves fish sticks and kept asking for more. Finally he asked how many he'd eaten. I said, "I don't know... you started with five and then you got two more and then another two more."
Instantly, he said, "That's nine!"
Aaaaiiiiiii! Should we just move all math to the dinner table?

Same way with Tris, If I ask him what 6x7 is he melts into the floor like a puddle. If I ask him "what if I up your allowance to $7, how much will you have in 6 weeks?"
Well naturally that's the stupidest question ever asked because he's like "42 MOM,, DUH!"
LOL Yep, dinner table math. It's all about having a vested interest in learning. :-))

My daughter was the same way with math. It made her cry every day. We just switched to Math U See and she's liking it so far.
Cameron's like that with reading. Read a phonics book? TORTURE! Read a Pokemon card or a Nintendo website? Oh no problem!

Oh my...sounds like our house! At least when math is done over fish sticks, you can see that there is hope after all!
