Columbus Day

Why yes, we do celebrate Columbus Day. Did we take the day off? Well, not exactly. We took the day off from our regularly scheduled Language assignment... and added a different assignment.

It started with a brainstorming session and ended with these:

An Italian man named Christopher Columbus sailed the Atlantic Ocean from Spain in 1492. The voyage was financed by Spain’s King Ferdinand and Queen Victoria. Christopher Columbus hoped to circle the world and find a shorter route to Asia but landed in The West Indies instead.

Christopher Columbus was Italian. He hoped to circle the world and find a shorter route to Asia. He gained support for his journey from Spain’s King Ferdinand and Queen Victoria. In 1492, he set sail across the Atlantic Ocean. Instead of finding a shorter route to Asia, he found The West Indies and America.
