Continued

Immediately following our pizza in the previous post, Matthew turned into a little angel. I think he did it to spite me; dh would not believe what a horrible brat he'd been just an hour earlier.

But his lack of nap on Thursday made Friday a breeze. The child slept until 11am! We had most of school finished before he even got out of bed. School goes much more smoothly when you're not constantly interrupted by a bored baby or refereeing between said baby and his big brother. We even had to time the make the most awesome no bake cookies. I've only ever had the chocolate variety but these are so-oo-o much better.... and quick and easy to make!

Now it's Saturday. Matthew is once again sleeping late and we're getting ready to paint the family room. Should be a fun day.

Pizza Night

Have you ever spent $144 at the grocery store and then ordered pizza for dinner? It's just been that kind of day. We didn't get a bit of school work done this morning and I don't even have a good excuse. We piddled around all morning. I did clean the kitchen, pay bills, and balance the checkbook. Then, I looked at the clock and it was time to leave for piano lessons (at least I remembered piano lessons this week). So I threw the kids in the van, ran through the bank, library, and post office and headed to piano lessons. Matthew was supposed to fall asleep in the van and get a little snooze. He didn't (this becomes important later).

We stopped at the grocery store on the way home. Matthew fell asleep precisely when I pulled into the parking lot. I had to wake him up. This is where the drama begins. We hadn't even put the first item in the cart before Matthew said, "I pee pee in my pants." And there he stood in a little yellow puddle in the aisle of Wal-Mart. Did I have extra clothes?? Of course not. He was just going to have to sit in his own filth. I made him ride in the buggy b/c that wide legged walk that comes from wet underwear was slowing me down (a sincere apology to the next person that uses that cart).

The kids were extremely well behaved while I picked out $144 worth of groceries and also tried to find the correct size of wiper blade for my van (tried being the key word there). So, while we were checking out, I grabbed a pack of gum for the older boys to split and a candy bar for me and Matthew. Have you ever seen a kid throw a fit when offered a candy bar? Matthew wanted gum and would not be distracted by the candy bar. He cried while we were checking out. He screamed when I put his coat on him. He threw a fit all the way out the door. He calmed down when we walked outside and I told him if he quit crying, he could share my candy. But when I broke it in half, he started screaming that overly tired baby scream. He apparently missed the 512 times I offered him half my candy bar.

He screamed half the way home... which is why I didn't feel like fixing dinner. It's exhausting to not throw a screaming baby out a moving vehicle. ;) I ordered the pizza while the good boys put the $144 worth of groceries away and the rotten baby watched Pooh Bear.

It's warming up here in WV. It's actually warm enough to walk to the library... if it weren't raining! Ugh! My books are overdue again. Two weeks just isn't long enough when you live as far away from the library as we do (hee, hee). I even have an on-line account and can't remember to make a few clicks and renew the books from my comfy chair.

Evan has been surprising me this week with his willingness to do book work. He's starting without me and not griping or whining. Yesterday, as I sent the older boys off to band, Evan started his Language page without me. I came over to help but he didn't need it. When he finished the front, we flipped it over. I instantly thought, "Oh no, easy street has a dead end." The back of the page had number words and they wanted him to write them all. He hates writing. But he did it with no complaints! He was even excited about how neatly he made some of the letters. His cooperation has carried over through today. He managed to do all his subjects in under an hour with nary a whine. He's even reading for fun and to entertain Matthew. :)

A New Week

My poor sweet honey has been sick with a cold all weekend. He goes back to work tomorrow and I hope he takes all his germs with him. It's a good thing I love him so much b/c his drama could really be annoying otherwise. I mean, come on! You've got a cold. Take a pill and suck it up! Hmmmm, I guess I used up all my sympathy in that first sentence. LOL Sorry, babe! I really do hope you feel better. :)

As for the rest of us, we have nothing planned this week besides our regular band and piano lessons. A whole week with no where to be! I hope we can get into a regular groove and really make some headway on our book work this week. I totally plan to finish Winston Grammar this week and we're very close to finishing our Astronomy book, too!

Matthew is doing great in his new big boy bed. I'm not sure he realizes yet that he can actually get out of bed himself. He still calls for me when he wakes up and I go in and get him. That's fine with me. I like knowing where he is b/c he sure can get into some mischief when left alone!

Catch Up

There's nothing much going on around here... mainly b/c I keep forgetting to do stuff! Last Thursday, I totally forgot to take Adam to his piano lesson. Nothing happened to make me forget, I just didn't go and didn't realize we were supposed to be there until after it started. Yesterday, I forgot to take the boys to band. Jeff was home for MLK Day, so it wasn't an ordinary Monday. I'll use that excuse. Co-op and skating were cancelled today b/c of slick roads, totally not my fault!

We were in Dayton, OH this past weekend to celebrate my birthday with my twin sister. Isn't she pretty? We're identical twins. While we were there, we visited the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. It's quite an amazing place! Our evening was hosted by SAE, an engineering group, and my BIL who is a member. We started with free pizza, pop, and cookies, and then headed for a planetarium show about Mars. I coerced everybody into that one b/c it fits well with our Astronomy curriculum! The show was very cool and we learned how to find Mars in the night sky. Later, we climbed to the top of their three story playground, looked out the skylight and found Mars with no problems. I tried to find it several times in December and was never successful. After the planetarium show, we explored all the fun stuff a children's science museum has to offer.

Adam is getting ready to launch the glider he built. This activity was hosted by the SAE Foundation and they gave me enough materials to recreate it for my co-op building art class! If you have a classroom, you can request a free kit at www.awim.org. Ryan's glider crash landed on it's maiden flight.
